Isabella was born about Dec 1845 in Chester le Street, Durham. She is the daughter of Matthew Swinburn and Elizabeth (Brown) Swinburn
She was baptised at St Andrew Church, Lamesley on 28 Sep 1845. Abode: Chowden.
In 1851, Isabella (aged 5) was a scholar living with her father (overman at Allerdean Colliery), mother and six siblings: James (16, Coal Miner), Margaret (13), Matthew (11), Catherine (9), Elizabeth (7) and John (2) in Chester le Street District.
At age 16, Isabella (in 1861) was living in Low Fell with her father (56, Coal Miner), mother (53) and three of her siblings: Mathew (22, Wine Merchants Clerk), Catherine (19) and John (12, Scholar).
In 1871, Isabella was 25 and a milliner & dressmaker.
