Martha was born in about 1837. She was the daughter of James Tombs and Kezia Grimsley.
In the 1851 census Martha (age 14) was living with her widowed father and 2 brothers in Wheatley, Oxfordshire, England.[1]
Martha gave birth to 2 illegitimate daughters in approx 1856 and 1859. She then married Richard Summers (a chelsea pensioner who had lost a leg in the Crimean War) on 26 November 1860 in Wheatley, Oxfordshire, England.[2]
With Richard Martha had 2 further children. The couple settled in Wheatley where Martha was the proprietoress of a sweet shop, they also spent some time living in nearby Headington according to the 1881 census. [3]
Martha died in 1919 and was buried on 14 February 1919 in Wheatley, Oxfordshire, England.[4]
