William was born on the 22nd of January 1843 and baptised at Leeds, St Peter on the 12th of Februray. He was the son of Daniel Toon and Mary (Kennah) Toon (abt.1813-). William's father was a private in the 32nd Regiment and his parents were living in Belgrave Street at the time of his baptism.[1]
He married Hannah Cockram at St Peter's, Derby on the 10th of April 1865.[2]
