Biography

Elizabeth was born in 1850 in Newton Abbot, Devon[1]. Her parents were William TOPE and Susanna Charlotte Tully HEATH.

1851, Elizabeth was just a year old living in Tormoham, Devon, England with her parents, William (26, a carpenter and joiner) and Charlotte (23, dressmaker)[2]

The barque, Lord Ashley set sail from Bristol, England on 7 Nov 1854 with mother and daughter, Charlotte and Jane TOPE among its passengers and arrived in Melbourne, Australia on 20 Feb 1855[3][4]

William McNABB and Elizabeth Jane TOPE were married on 22 Oct 1878 in Emerald Hill, Victoria, Australia[5].

McNABB—TOPE - On the 22nd inst at 7 St Vincent-street east, Emerald-hill, by the Rev. E. Greenwood, William, eldest son of Thomas M'Nabb, of Askenthwaite, Westmoreland, England, to Elizabeth Jane, eldest daughter of the late William Tope, formerly of Torquay, Devon, England. McNABB—TOPE. — [Golden Wedding.]—On the 2nd October, 1878, at South Melbourne, by the late Rev. Elijah Greenwood, William, eldest son of the late Thomas and Elizabeth McNabb, England, to Elizabeth Jane, eldest daughter of the late William and Charlotte Tope, of South Melbourne. (Present address, Lincombe, 119 Kooyong road, Armadale.)

She passed away in 1936 in Armadale, Victoria[8] and was buried at the St. Kilda Cemetery[9].

Death Notice 7 May 1936[10]

McNABB. — On the 5th May, at her residence, "Lincombe," 119 Kooyong-road, Armadale, Elizabeth Jane, beloved wife of William McNabb. and devoted mother William T. F., Emily (Mrs. Reid Robertson) and Percy, and darling grandmother of Jean and Bruce, aged 86 years. A colonist of 83 years. Privately interred, 6th May. Peace, perfect peace.
