SCHUYLER LAKE--Bruce Van Benschoten, 66, of East Lake Road, Schuyler Lake, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown. He was born in Richfield Springs on Dec. 29, 1919, son of Bruce and Marguerite (MacGreen) Van Benschoten. He married Dorothy Saxe Jan. 18, 1948, in Warren. He was educated in VanHornesville Central Schools and he operated the family dairy farm on Chyle Road until 1950 when the farm was sold. He and his wife moved to Schuyler Lake and continued farming. Later, he worked for Van's Appliances in Richfield Springs and in 1975 he worked as a janitor at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown. He retired in June of 1985. He was a member of the Fly Creek Valley Grange No. 790 and served as Grange Master and assistant steward. He was an honorary member of the Schuyler Lake Fire Department. Besides his wife he is survived by two sons, Raymond A. Foster of Schuyler Lake, Francis L. Foster of California; two brothers, Theron Van Benschoten of Deltona, Fla., Hugh Van Benschoten of East Springfield; one sister, Mrs. Lela Nestle of Anchorage, Alaska; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday, October 4, at the J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs. Burial was in the Lakeview Cemetery, Richfield Springs ..." [1]
