Biography
Mary was born in 1811, in Virginia. She was the daughter of Richard Nathaniel Venable (1763-1838) and Mary Morton (1779-1838).
On 10 Aug 1830, in Prince Edward, she married James D Ligon. They settled in Prince Edward where they had 10 known children:
- Martha Venable "Pattie" Ligon b. 1831 - d. 1908, m. John Woodfin Hughes
- Henry Watkins Ligon b. 1833 - d. 1848, age 15
- Bettie Morton Ligon b. 1834 - d. 1836, age 2
- James Goodrich Ligon b. 1838 - d. 1862, age 24
- Mary Morton Ligon b. 1840 - d. aft. 1880, m. Edward O T Clarke
- Martha Hughes Ligon b. 1841 - d. 1908
- Richard Venable Ligon b. 1844 - d. 1916, never married
- Fanny Ann Nash Ligon b. 1846 - d. 1861, age 15
- Susan Ballantine Ligon b. 1848 - d. 1919, m. Sion Stanley Price
- Benjamin Haskins Ligon b. 1850 - d. 1903, never married
In 1851 Mary passed away, possibly in childbirth with an unknown child. It is unknown where she is buried.
