Isaac was born in Brightling and baptised there on 31 March 1726/27. He was the son of Isaac Veness and Mary Russell (name entered in register as Venice) [1] (and indexed here as Venner) [2]
=== Research Notes ===
It is very unlikely that he married Sarah Brook. There was a marriage between an Isaac Veness and Sarah Brook in Winchelsea on 27 July 1792, and Isaac was shown to be a blacksmith from Rye. [3]
There is a marriage in Brightling on 9 April 1751, between Isaac Veness and Ann Goldsmith, which may very well relate to this profile. [4] It's not unknown for the vicar to copy the wrong first name into the register, and with the timing of the birth of the first child in 1752, it seems quite likely that Isaac married a lady called Sarah Goldsmith. If naming conventions were followed in this instance, then as Isaac and Mary (the names of Isaac's parents) were the 2nd and 4th children, it seems likely that Sarah's parents were called John and Ann.
A Sarah Goldsmith was baptised in Crowhurst on 4 July 1731, with parents John and Ann, and as Crowhurst is a parish adjacent to Battle, it is quite likely that she was Isaac's wife. (notes added 19 Dec 2019 by Carol Keeling)
Isaac and his wife Sarah had the following children baptised in Battle: [5]
