Biography

Birth & Baptism

Derk was born in 1794 and baptized on 17 september of that year in Etten, Gelderland, Nederland. He was the son of Gerrit Verheij and Theodora Kusters.

Marriages

Derk married twice. First to Maria Bongers on 29 july 1822 in Rheden, Gelderland, Nederland. His age was 28 at the time.[1]

After the death of Maria ( 17 oct 1828) he married her (half)sister Elisabeth Helmus. That's why they needed dispensation to get married. The marriage date was 5 may 1832 and they married in Millingen, Gelderland, Nederland. His age at marriage was 37[2]

Children

He and Maria had the following children, all born in Rheden:

  1. Gerhardus (19 jul 1823- 18 mar 1849)
  2. Hermanus (19 jul 1823)
  3. Hendrikus (6 dec 1824-21 oct 1843)
  4. Wilhelmina (8 oct 1826)
  5. Theodorus (1 sep 1828-4 nov 1875)

Together with Elisabeth he had the following children:

  1. Maria (born out of wedlock on 28 dec 1831 and legitimized at their wedding)
  2. Johannes (24 april 1833 Terborg)
  3. Theodora (17 nov 1836, Terborg)
  4. Aleida (10 nov 1838, De Heuven)
  5. Carolus (10 sep 1840, De Heuven)
  6. Everhardus (13 oct 1843, De Heuven)

Death

He passed away on 16 august 1877 in Terborg at the ripe old age of 82. [3]
