This website Matteo I Visconti clarifies that a death year (beheading, post battle) is knowable, but also importantly, that the death location differs from that of Pope Gregory X (born c.?1210, Piacenza, Holy Roman Empire, died 10 January 1276, Arezzo, Holy Roman Empire).
Matthew was the son of Teobaldo Visconti, who was beheaded in Gallarate in 1276 after a contingent of the Visconti lost a battle to the Della Torre (or Torriani, Italian for "Of the Tower," before 21 Jan 1277) family.[4]

Many noble Visconti partisans fell or were made prisoners. About thirty men were beheaded in Gallarates square; amongst them were Goffredo di Langosco and Teobaldo Visconti who was the Archbishop's nephew.

It should be noted that Wikipedia: Teobaldo Visconti, Italian condottiero is distinguished as a different person than Pope Gregory X [Teobaldo Visconti (ca. 1210-10 Jan 1276)].
  • Note that the Teobaldo of present had children; whereas, Pope Gregory X is not recorded as having children.
  • It is curious that no sourcing on the Pope seems to mention who his parents were, though.
