Biography
Elizabeth Wanton was baptised on 1 Jan 1762 at Trinity Church in Newport, Rhode Island.[1]
On 7 Jul 1782, at St Philip's church in Charleston, South Carolina, she married John Wilkinson, an officer in the British Army.[2]
After his death in 1804, she was living at Ealing, Middlesex, the home of John's widowed mother. Her husband's youngest sister Nancy was a daughter-in-law of the vicar of Ealing, the Reverend Colston Carr, who was also a justice of the peace, and he on 8 Jul 1805 certified that Elizabeth was a "deserving widow" eligible for an Army pension.
