Eleanor was born in 1757 in Perthshire, Scotland. She is said to be the daughter of Lord Wardrobe of Scotland. She is shown to have arrived in Washington County, Virginia, as Eleanor Blackburn in 1785. Her husband William Blackburn was killed in action at King’s Mountain. Her son from this marriage was John W. Blackburn of Pennsylvania. He is found in the household of William John Gray. Her middle name varies from sources. She passed away in 1822. John Gray adopted the son of William Blackburn.
William John Gray came to Virginia Wardrobe, a family name, was corrupted to Wardlow in later generations. some sources show “Wardell”
