Biography

Caleb was born about 1786 in Edgecombe Co, NC. ... He passed away in 1859 in El Paso, White Co, AR and is buried in the Grissard Cemetery.

A Warren researcher says Caleb Warren was the son of John Warren b. 1755 in Virginia and his wife Mary. This John Warren was a prisoner during the Revolutionary War. He later moved to Edgecombe, North Carolina where he died, date unknown. Richard Warren is probably one of Caleb's brothers.

From family records: "Caleb Warren had two brothers, one a Presbyterian preacher. Caleb's ancestors came to America before the revolutionary war and served during this war on the colonists' side.

About 20 families came together to Arkansas from Tennessee, near Brownsville (in Haywood Co. Tenn), in 1856. They brought with them servants, horses, cattle, and camped out until the servants could build houses from logs. The old Warren house was originally built in the midst of a large farm, on an old military road, near Little Rock. Later it was moved to a farm near El Paso, White Co. Ark, and used as a barn."

Caleb Warren married twice, first Sally Vann by whom he had one son, then Tempie Strickland by whom he had a son and a daughter. Both marriages seem to have taken place in North Carolina before he moved to Haywood Co, TN. His second wife seems to have died before he made the move to White Co AR in 1856 with his older son and his daughter. Perhaps the youngest son came also, records not clear.

1850 United States Federal Census Haywood TN. With female Tamby (Tempie?) Warren, b. 1790 NC and a boy Caleb Ruth b. 1836. Think this is Caleb Booth, son of Sallie Warren Booth.

His will written before his death in 1859 refers to a third wife identified only as Kitty. Tempe seems to have died after the 1850 census and before the move to Arkansas. Since Caleb dies just before the 1860 census, the only reference to Kitty is in that will. She shows up in the 1860 census as K Warren, widow, 48 years, b. TN with property. http://www.argenweb.net/white/census/1860Royal.htm
