Biography

OBITUARY: Melvin Weese, age 86, died Monday, April 22, 2013 in Clayton, New Mexico.

Rosary was recited at 7:00 PM on Friday, April 26, by Deacon P. Louis Montoya and Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 27, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Clayton, New Mexico with Fr. Glenn Jones, Celebrant. Burial followed in the Clayton Memorial Cemetery by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton, New Mexico.

Melvin Weese was born on September 17, 1926 to Benjamin Frank Weese and Bertha Mae (Jones) Weese on the family homesteaded in a dugout in the Blind Gap area. Melvin graduated from high school in Grenville and received an athletic scholarship to Eastern New Mexico University in Portales but was drafted into the US Navy shortly after he started college. Melvin married Josephine Edna (Jueschke) Weese on November 23, 1950 in Hayden, New Mexico and she preceded him in death on August 4, 2000. Melvin was an independent contractor in the Plumbing and Heating Industry and worked many other jobs around the area as well. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Clayton. Melvin was a great story teller and often quoted Shakespeare. He enjoyed telling his great-granddaughter, Gabriela "The Little Fox" story and wanted to teach his great-grandson, Cristian Morse Code. In addition to his wife and parents, Melvin was preceded in death by 2 brothers; Harold Weese and Nyle Weese and a sister; Wanda June Pitts.

DAUGHTER: Linda Guthrie of Clayton, New Mexico.

GRANDDAUGHTER: Jennifer Estrada and her husband Adam of Clovis, New Mexico.

2 GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Cristian Estrada and Gabriela Estrada both of Clovis.

1 SISTER: Vada Crist of Amarillo, Texas.
