Biography

Birth and death dates for George are from his tombstone in Werts Grave Yard #2, Newberry County, SC.^[1]

George served in the South Carolina militia during the American Revolutionary War from 13 May 1780 to 16 November 1782. He was in the regiment commanded by Col. Philemon Waters, with his immediate commander being Capt. William Houseal.

George's will is dated 15 September 1821 and was proved on 30 November 1840. In the will he names his wife as Mollie Wearts. He states his daughter was the wife of Jacob Mayer and left her 150 acres of land in the District of Edgefield.
