Biography

John was born in 1787 in New Jersey.

He married Hester Ann Mason.

John passed away in after 8 August 1860, when John Winner Sr. of Pike County, Illinois made his will.[1] It names:

  • sons William Winner of Pike County, Thomas Winner of Adams County, and Samuel Winner of Pike county, each demised 1/3 of John's real estate in Pike County

One of the witnesses was Joshua Winner.

Census Records

1820 U.S. census of Batavia, Clermont County, Ohio.[2] John Winner, head of a household comprising:

  • one male and one femaled aged 26–44
  • one male aged 16–25 (but not marked in the 16–18 category)
  • three males aged 0–9

1830 U.S. census of Batavia, Clermont County, Ohio.[3] John Winner, head of a household comprising:

  • one male and one female aged 40–49
  • one male aged 15–19
  • one male aged 10–14

These are inferred to be John and wife Hester, plus younger sons William and Thomas.

Research Notes

Hundreds of online trees, FindAGrave, and other online locations claim his parents were John Winner and Milicent Mapes. Nevertheless, there is no reliable evidence, and there is reason to think this assignment is wrong.
