Research notes
Lukas left Germany before he was called up for military service. Josef Winterhalder (16 Mar 1827 Hinterzarten) and his brother Lukas Winterhalder (6 Oct 1834 Hinterzarten) lived in 1865/1866 in Leicester, when their father Mathias, farmer on the Hugenhof, Hinterzarten died.[5]
Friedrich R. Wollmershäuser doesn't know anything about Winterhalders from Hinterzarten emigrating, but only mentions a farmhand named Paul from Steig that is absent.[7]
