Elizabeth Wycherley, birth registered as Witchley, was born on 15 January 1865 at Dudley, Worcestershire. [1] Her date of birth was recorded in the 1939 Register.
In the 1871 census Elizabeth was living with her parents Isaiah and Hannah Wycherley at Washington Street, Dudley. She was aged 5 years. [2]
Elizabeth has not been located in the 1881 census.
Elizabeth Wycherly married Frederick Green on 28 November 1886 at St. Michael the Archangel, Tividale, Staffordshire. Their marriage certificate recorded Frederick was a bachelor aged 21 and a moulder. His father was named as William Green, a moulder. Elizabeth was a spinster aged 21. Her father was named as Isaiah Wycherly, a chain maker. Both gave their address at the time of marriage simply as Rowley Regis. Their witnesses were John Green and Sarah Ann Green. Both witnesses signed with their mark. [3]
This couple had seven children named Frederick William born 1887, James Harry born 1889, Lily born 1892, Frederick William born 1895, Martha Ann born 1898, John Wycherley born 1900 and Lily May born 1903.
Eldest son Frederick William Green died in 1888 aged 1 year. [4]
In the 1891 census Frederick and Elizabeth were living at Springfield Lane, Rowley Regis. Frederick, aged 26, was a potter at the sanitary pipe works. Elizabeth was also aged 26 and son James was aged 1. [5]
Daughter Lily Green died in 1896 aged 3 years. [6]
In the 1901 census the family was living at 111 Dudley Rd, Rowley Regis, next door to Frederick's parents. Frederick, aged 36, was then described as a pottery moulder. Elizabeth was aged 35. James was aged 11, Frederick aged 6, Martha aged 3 and John aged 7 months. [7]
In 1911 the family was living at 162 Dudley Rd, Springfield, near Dudley. [Springfield was still in the parish of Rowley Regis - the family was living in the same road as in the previous census.] Frederic [sic], aged 46, was then a general labourer at the pottery works. Elizabeth was also aged 46. Children James, Martha, John and Lily May were aged 21, 13, 10 and 7 respectively. James was working as a moulder at the pottery works. [8]
Son Frederick was then boarding at the home of George Pritchard and family at 42 Victoria Place, Albrighton, Shropshire. Aged 16, he was an assistant baker. [9]
The 1939 Register, taken on 29 September 1939, has been described as a snapshot of the civilian population of England and Wales just after the outbreak of the Second World War. The Register recorded each person's address, date of birth and occupation.
At that time Frederick and Elizabeth were residing at 172 Dudley Road, Rowley Regis. Frederick, born 6 December 1864, was aged 75. He was recorded as a retired clay moulder. Elizabeth, born 15 January 1865, was also aged 75. [10]
Frederick Green died in 1942 aged 77 years. [11]
Elizabeth Green's death has not been established.
