He married Mathelda Elizabeth WALKER, probably before 1868 as the oldest child in the 1870 household was 2 years old.

Mathelda Elizabeth WALKER was born about 7 December 1843 in Virginia and died on 9 January 1919 in Charleston, Kanawha County, West Virginia. She was the daughter of Henry WALKER. Her mother's name is currently unknown. She was reportedly buried in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Charleston Daily Mail, 11 January 1919 article on the Find A Grave Site for Matheida (Matilda) Elizabeth WALKER YANCEY said she died at home and was survived by 6 daughters. The interment was listed as being made in Springhill Cemetery.

Possible Further Avenue of Research: FamilySearch has her linked as possible mother of Find A Grave: Memorial #37275644 Henrietta Victoria WALKER MILLS (1861 - 1904) - who was born and died in Pulaski County, Virginia, but I have not been able to find any documentation except story by Ida Mills King as to the validity of the information. The information provided by Ida Mills King stated she was a slave of David Shall McGAVOCK. According to this report, Mathelda WALKER is possibly of Cherokee Indian descent and was a slave of this David Shall McGAVOCK who was the father of this Henrietta Victoria WALKER MILLS. Henrietta was not listed in the 1870 census record of Oliver YANCY in Kanawha County, West Virginia.
