Donald Gordon Zigler was born 28 Sep 1911 and his family resided at 465 Reynolds Ave., (or 465 E. Elizabeth St.), Columbus, OH.
Donald married Frances on 3 Apr 1929 in Newport, KY. They had a daughter together:
Frances Marie Zigler, born 27 Oct 1929 and died on 25 Nov 1929. She died of inflammation of the spinal cord (Spina Bifida). The family lived at 803 Stewart Ave. at the time of her death.
Per the 1930 census, taken in April that year, Donald and Frances are listed as residents and a 6 mo old child named "Roy" is listed as their son. This child would have had to be born in November of 1929. This does not make sense as their first child Frances Marie, was born 27 Oct 1929, and then died 28 days later. It is assumed that Roy lived with his aunt and uncle at this time, and perhaps his parents did as well, but were not at home during the census? No 1930 census for his parents has been discovered.
The family lived at 659 Third St., Columbus, OH.
They also had a son Donald C. Zigler who was age 7 at the 1940 Census. Donald died on 25 Sep 1997. Buried at Glen Rest Memorial Estate, Reynoldsburg, OH.
Uncle Don was a very gentle, soft spoken and soft hearted man, who was the family "historian" which I am thankful for, although I wish I'd written more down. Probably in the mid-1950's, he undertook the job of building his and Aunt Frances' permanent home, while still working full time at Timkens Roller Bearings in Columbus, Ohio. When the basement was complete enough, they moved in and continued building as they acquired the financial means. I thought it was neat, as a child, to see someone basically living underground. It wasn't a big thing, but sis and I and our cousins looked forward to receiving our brand new crisp $1 bills at Christmas, in the envelope where you could view "George's" face looking back at you! He loved pets too, like most of his siblings, and had many, even rescueing a blind Palomino horse. I loved visiting around N.Lewisburg, Ohio with him where the family roots were and visiting the cemetery there. He and Aunt Frances were two of my favorite people.
