How do I join a PPP if there is no Project Box? [closed]

I am trying to remove a spouse from a PPP. The help page (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Project_Protection#How_to_Contribute_to_a_PPP) states "There should be a Project Box identifying the project above the biography. We hope you'll join." The profile in question (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Buford-87) has no such "project box" that I can see, near the biography or anywhere else.

Contacting the profile manager has proven futile thus far. How do I make this edit?

Nathan, if this is all set now, could you close this question? If not, what remains to be done ?

The Changes log gives the name of the person who locked the profile (made it a PPP) and this person posted a general explanation on their personal profile. This seems to date back from a time when the software did not force a merge to go into the profile with the lower ID, so in order to prevent merges from going left and right, and make sure they got into the lowest numbered profiles, lots of profiles were locked preventively. The criteria for locking (PPP'ing) a profile changed and became much stricter later on.

If you allow a couple of days for project leaders to chime in, then I'm sure either a project will adopt the profile and work with you, or the PPP will be removed.

I think you will find the reason it is PPP is because of the controversy over the spouse. If you have records that prove why the removal should be done I am sure the PMs will be more than willing to work with you.

How do I know who the PMs are or how to contact them? Are the PMs for the profile the same as the PMs for the PPP? If so, I have had no luck there. The help page states there is a way to join the project. How do I do that?
If you go to the profile yo will see the profile managers an next to the name is send private message. If you have already done that for each pm, then you need to post a comment (at the bottom of the profile page ). If they don’t respond after a couple of weeks then you can file an Unresponsive member report.

To have PPP on a profile doesn’t necessarily mean there is actually a project, it can be used to prevent unwanted changes.

As I stated having records to prove your reasoning to remove the spouse will be necessary. This is especially so because of the comments and info already on the profile.
Thank you for explaining. I not only have the records, I already posted them to the profile, and explained them in the biography and public comments section.
It is disappointing that the PPP label is used in a way that is different than what the help articles describe. The help articles led me on a wild goose chase, looking everywhere for a project box that does not exist. I am surprised wikitree would treat me like that.

According to this help page:

All PPPs must be managed by a project and therefore need Project Boxes and a Project Account as a manager. See Help:Project-Managed Profiles.

This profile has no project management. The profile appears to have been locked into PPP in 2012, and since then, the rules for it have changed. So, this profile needs to have project management or the PPP should be removed.

It should be the Virginia project. I've added that tag which will hopefully get their attention. Or you can reach out to them directly.

But it does look like the profile needs confined protection due to the controversy.  AND I concur that his current wife needs detaching from him and his children.
thanks Jillaine - I've added Virginia Project as a manager.

Nathan - If I understand correctly, [Lee-4572] needs to be detached from [Buford-87] and also detached as mother of his children. I've posted to both profiles & if you could confirm my understanding, I'll do the detaching this afternoon.

Cheers, Liz
Thanks to all who jumped on this. Liz, that is correct, Lee-2572 should be detached from Buford-87 and all children.
Done :D

Just the question about Ann having a child who isn't named in her father's will remains.
I saw no evidence Ann Buford had a child. The register places her marriage and death at 5.5 months or less apart, making a child unlikely. If her husband fathered a child, it seems most likely it was a different mother.
Thanks! I've detached William from her.

I would maybe try contacting the US Southern Colonies Project: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:US_Southern_Colonies

I've added the southern_colonies tag.
