Through an EditBOT template (Rename Category).

So in this case:

{{Rename Category|Lower Mitcham, South Australia}}

Once you save, there will be a page displayed showing not to use that category, and to use the correct(ly named) version. If that link shows up in RED, then the category does not yet exist and you need to create it (link to parent categories as applicable and adding the CIB Location if you are comfortable with it).

I've started the rename batch process. The incorrect 'Lower Michum' had a Category Information Box which will be copied to the new category.

Leandra, this is an editor which runs in batches to find all references to 'Lower Michum' and rename them. It might take some days to process. Please be patient.
Steve, thanks for the assistance, but my post was made in an effort to help the user learn how to work the category correction.

Also, this is not a batch process for finding all instances of Lower Michum. EditBOT will only replace the name on the single attached profile during the rename process.

Steve, thanks for clarification about batching - more education for me. I had assumed that the find and replace process was a bit more extensive than only replace inside the attached profiles.

I understand that you have described the EditBOT instructions for users to do this for themselves. However, as a novice user, I found this level of instruction hard to follow. Initially, I needed advice in a simpler guide. An example is the 'Rename the Category' section of  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Renaming_a_Category_for_Voyages_to_Australia

For the benefit of novice users there's also another guide about Categories:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Category_Guidelines

A few notes:

  1. The instructions for the Rename Category template were linked in the answer above, for clarity, see: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Template:Rename_Category. This provides you with the information to use the template and what happens afterwards (see the Examples section).

    This type of operation is not recommended for novice users, so of the information given, it is important to note that members wishing to learn more should join the Categorization Project, or investigate the Help pages on this subject.

  2. The Reaming page you linked for Australia is very specific for those subsets of categories, and does not apply to all categories. It should not be used as a basis for renaming other categories that fall outside of that documents scope.

  3. Space:Category_Guidelines is an unofficial page that is not a guideline or policy for global Categorization. This one was also created for the Australia Project. For the official guides and policies, please start at Help:Categorization.
Thank you, Steve and Steve.
