John Adams is often refered to as the father of the Navy.  I wonder how they related to each other?  Another story to be found and told...
They did not like each other. John Adams thought Commodore Barry was washed up. Jefferson offered him a commission later but Barry was too sick to accept it. In fact, I read that Adams made rather snide comments about him. And thank you.

Hi all, I am currently the manager of Commodore Barry,  and it is protected by the 1776 project, Irish roots project and the Barry Name Study Project. I believe in honoring those who came before us and made history, no matter what some publications may say about them. Please note:

  • Barry was the first to capture a British war vessel on the high seas
  • Barry captured the most ships (prizes) of any captain during the revolution.
  • When deprived of a ship when the capture of Philadelphia seemed imminent, Barry formed a regiment of sailors and marines and fought at the battles of Trenton and Princeton
  • Barry captured two British ships after himself being severely wounded
  • Barry fought the last naval action of the Revolution

I agree with the above soure "Irrespective of titles, we must ensure that the patriotism and devotion of John Barry to his country is never eclipsed".
