Why was Thomas living with the Young family at age 4?

While looking for more information on Mary Rose Homan and her indian heritage I found a census in Machias, ME on Ancestry with Thomas living with a different family. He was 4 years old and livng on Plantation 14 Machias, ME with the Youngs. Does anyone have any more information on him.  I have spoken with Rosalee Berry Allen's daughter (Thomas is her 5xGgrandfather) who lives in Texas. Her daughter is Rebecca Small.

I do not have an answer on your questions, but I too am looking into my husbands ancestry line of the "Homan", not to confuse it with the "Homans".  The Homan line that I am researching is from Brookhaven, Long Island, NY also around Southold, Bellport, & Patchogue and possibly Yaphank, Long Island, NY.  Also not to confuse with Homan line from Wading River or Pt. Jefferson, Long Island, NY-haven't figured out yet if they are related.

Anyhow, in our family line there is also talk of our Homan line being of Indian Heritage (Mohauk / Onondaga) from around Rochester, NY - but I haven't figured out how that is possible because the GGGGgrandfather's were born in England, moved to Salem, Essex,Massachusetts and then to Long Island during the late 1700's & early 1800's.

I did find that some of the Homan did branch out to New Jersey, PA, and I believe TX.

That's all I have so far.  So maybe I did answer some Indian questions for you?  If you have any more info, would you please share your idea's?
