Hi George,
I'm still working on the Elliott's. So much so that I've had to take a break because I have strained my eyes from reading so many records trying to connect those that are part of our collective puzzle.
When I started researching my Elliott's, I started with my maternal grand father, Nixon Cash Elliott, because I had a little bit of info on him. He was born in 1887 in Wichita, Kansas, his brother James Gladden Elliott was born in Missouri and his sister Josephine was born in Colorado. Then I worked out from there in all directions and across many states with Elliott's (of all different spellings).
My grandfather's father was also Nixon Elliott. He was born in Gadsden, FL & his father, James N or M Elliott was born either in North or South Carolina. Records I've found show both.
As with many families, there are generations of the same first names, (ie., William, John, Thomas, James, Mary, Elizabeth, etc) carried on and some are multiple within a same family, either because of loss of a child or that siblings named their children the same. That's why it can be so confusing.
In the 1700's Abstract of Wills of North Carolina, I did come across a Samuel Smith b. 1782 - 1789?? with sons Job, Josiah, and daughters Lydia Smith, Sarah Parker, Millicent Smith, Leah Elliott, Rachel Elliott & Nancy Smith. Samuel's wife was also named Leah. She & son Job were his Executors of his Estate. I found this Book of Abstracts on Gengophers, but that site was taken down because they just couldn't keep up with all the genealogy sites and records available.
I'm not sure if the above Smith's are part of your Nancy Smith & Moses Elliott, maybe coincidental, but perhaps these names can help lead you in the right direction.
Keep in touch and I'll do the same.
