Hi there George,

I believe that my ancestral line of Elliott's and yours are connected. My Elliott's are on my mother's side when you go back from her father (my grandfather) and see as far back as you can go

Just yesterday I was on Familysearch.org and came across some new additions to my collective tree there and saw that I have a Moses Elliott, born 2/19/1813 in Virginia and died in Grayson, Kentucky. It shows that he was married to a Nancy Smith. She was born in 1816 in Virginia, but no death place info given.

I am still connecting puzzle pieces to my Elliott ancestors, but the record I saw for Moses is showing that he is the husband of Nancy, who is supposedly my 12th cousin. I also saw that a George Elliott did some updating for Moses on 3/17/2020 & can only assume that is you.

Whatever info I have that you think might help, I'm willing to share with you, if you'd like. Just send me a message and let me know and I'll do my best to help you connect your pieces, too.

Have a great night!

Blaire

P.S. I also checked to see how I am related to George Elliott on Familysearch and it indicates that you are my 10th cousin. I think that is pretty cool.
Thank you for your information.  I would love to see what information you have on the Elliott's.  We have been trying to reach back in our family history for some time but have been stuck with Moses.  It seems that post Civil War many of our county court buildings "mysteriously"  burned ;) and we lost all the family records.  I found some references to a Moses in another family tree that seemed to line up with us and attached it to my tree.  The birth date and state of birth for Moses seemed correct.  Thank you for your interest and help.

Thank you for your reply.  I am very interested in whatever information you may have on the Elliott's.  We have been trying to look back into our family history and have been stuck at Moses for some time.  It seems that post Civil War many of the court houses in Kentucky were "mysteriously" burned ;) and we lost all the family records.  I found some information on another family tree that seemed to match with mine and had Moses' birth date and birth state correct so added it to mine which included his wife Nancy.  I look forward to seeing what you may have and hope to help complete more information for both of us.

Hi George,

I'm still working on the Elliott's. So much so that I've had to take a break because I have strained my eyes from reading so many records trying to connect those that are part of our collective puzzle.

When I started researching my Elliott's, I started with my maternal grand father, Nixon Cash Elliott, because I had a little bit of info on him. He was born in 1887 in Wichita, Kansas, his brother James Gladden Elliott was born in Missouri and his sister Josephine was born in Colorado. Then I worked out from there in all directions and across many states with Elliott's (of all different spellings).

My grandfather's father was also Nixon Elliott. He was born in Gadsden, FL & his father, James N or M Elliott was born either in North or South Carolina. Records I've found show both.

As with many families, there are generations of the same first names, (ie., William, John, Thomas, James, Mary, Elizabeth, etc) carried on and some are multiple within a same family, either because of loss of a child or that siblings named their children the same. That's why it can be so confusing.

In the 1700's Abstract of Wills of North Carolina, I did come across a Samuel Smith b. 1782 - 1789?? with sons Job, Josiah, and daughters Lydia Smith, Sarah Parker, Millicent Smith, Leah Elliott, Rachel Elliott & Nancy Smith. Samuel's wife was also named Leah. She & son Job were his Executors of his Estate. I found this Book of Abstracts on Gengophers, but that site was taken down because they just couldn't keep up with all the genealogy sites and records available.

I'm not sure if the above Smith's are part of your Nancy Smith & Moses Elliott, maybe coincidental, but perhaps these names can help lead you in the right direction.

Keep in touch and I'll do the same.
Hello George and Blair.  I am also looking for information on Moses Elliott and the family before him.  I am from the William branch of the Elliott tree.  I could not believe when I came across this thread.  Hopefully this is still active.  We are a small group of Elliott's out of Michigan.  William's son James Henry to his son Pual D.  Pual was married to Flora Belle Davidson and were my great grandparents.  Let me know if you have any other info especially immigration info.

Thank you, I am trying to find our about Moses' parents as well.  He came from VA but I have not found out where or who his parents and older family were.   Thanks for your help.
