He seems to have some sources already to build upon. I found two NPS Entries. Are they both him? Battle Unit Note - Ambulance Corps.

We need his parental genealogy to link him to the Wikitree family tree.

He was married twice to a Marcia Maria (Thomas) Rhodes (abt. 1827 - 1909) and Mary Ann (Peck) Wilkinson (1823 - 1873)

Indeed what is needed is Leonard's family ancestry.  As you have shown his life is pretty well revealed following his first marriage but is a big blank prior to the wedding notices.
