Sounds like an interesting fellow.  I wasn't able to find a profile about this John Porter on WikiTree. Hope you'll consider creating a profile about him.

It would be wonderful to learn more about his wife Mary and where they married. Is her ancestry known?
No one in the family knows who she was or where she came from only that she and John Porter were possibly married.  He would have been 24 in 1783.

He was in Pa, NJ, NY, Va, SC and other places during the Rev. War.

She was possibly b abt 1759/62 also a youngster and I don't know where she was from.

Some say Ct but if that is the Mary and John Porter he would have been not in his teens but much younger and that John died after 1783.

I have the history of John in the Rev War that Todd Braisted found in the Archives and in England.

The last time I saw my Mum's cousin, George Porter, he was still trying to find where John came from and to find Mary's last name.  His grandfather was their son John Jr..George has since died as he was in his early 90's then in the early 2000.

I used to go to NB every year since I was 4 yrs old til the WW2 and then again after the war even when I got married every year and just up to 2yrs ago.  Always felt like I was going home.  Hopefully again next year and to go to Nova Scotia where my Dad's folks are from.

IWrong record
Name: John Porter Esquire
Probate Date: 17 Dec 1783
Residence: Bath

wrong record
John Porter was drown abt 15 Oct 1783 in the St John River in New Brunswick and is buried in the Loyalist cemetery in Fredericton, NB.

This is proof postive from the Archives/ NBGS center in Fredericton, NB  I have been there.

This is all we know about Mary with John but I have a bit when she married Johann Christian Fuchs before John Porter Sr's son was born in spring 1783.

As for John Porter Sr.  He was a drummer in the Queens American Rangers in Rev. War after he had arrived from England to Pa in 1773 and was in NY in 1776.  He did a lot traveling to different states in the Rev. War and in Oct 1783 he drown in the St John River coming from Saint John NB where most of the Loyalist's ended up and then going to different places in NB then NS.

that is all the info we have on him except he was born 1759 in England and drown Oct 1783??

I did find a piece about a John Porter b June 1759 to Thomas and Sarah Porter in Much Dewchurch, Herefordshire, England
Saw one listing that claimed John Porter Jr. crossed the Delaware with George Washington.  Any way to corroborate this?
Did you by chance find out any more information about either John Porter or Mary? I am a descendant of Charlotte Fox and have been attempting to research Mary's heritage.
I would like to learn more about the ancestry of Mary Unknown Porter also as I am related to her daughter Charlotte Fox from her second marriage. When I did DNA testing it revealed closest matches from Sicily and I have no record of ancestors from this area. It is in my maternal blood line which stops with this Mary.
The only thing that anybody knows about Mary Porter, John Porters wife.

All we know that she was the widow of John Porter who married after his death toJohann Christian Fuchs in 1874 before the birth of her son John Porter, Jr.

Johann tried to get John Porters claim of land but was turned down as John Porter (deceased) had a living child.  Getting that info that Hessian Johann Christian Fuchs said he wasn't going to raise another man's child and made Mary give the boy John Porter to a family.

That is all we know.  No one even knows which family, but he knew the Dow's as he married Rhoda Dow.

No one is going to tell me that, that Hessian didn't drown John Porter and marry his widow 5-6 months after his death.

I do have the children of Johann ( now John Fox)Fuchs, but I cringe everytime I see his name.  He was a horrible German man.
