spacing in newsletter

I'm trying to post our newsletter.  Word says we have 7,470 characters with spaces but G2G says we have over 12,000 characters, which is the limit.  Any suggestions on how G2G reads our input document and what we can do to modify it to fit?

Good question!  I've run into a similar character count issue on WikiTree.

If you are pasting it from Word then all sorts of non-printing characters come with it - they control Word's formatting.  That would account for the increased character count.  Try pasting it from Word into a simple text editor (like Notepad), then copy from there and paste it into G2G

Thank you Gaile, that did the trick.  I'd forgotten all about that so yours was the perfect reminder.
And I never knew it in the first place.  Thanks, Gaile.
You're very welcome, Julie.  By the way, the same thing sometimes happens when you try to paste from another webpage into G2G - I've seen it happen when trying to paste the transcription of a census record from familysearch - the same solution works for that, too - first paste into a text editor, then copy from there and paste in G2G to get rid of all the hidden characters.
