Question about Ambrose Cole

I am directly descended from Ambrose Cole (born Scituate ca 1668, married Silence Wade 1693 and Abigail Sutton (nee Clarke) 1715, died Scituate 1738).  Deane has him buying the Otis lands in Scituate in 1695 and building a house (later inhabited by son, David and his wife Sarah Balch) there in 1700.  We have searched high and low to find Ambrose's ancestors.  Several people have suggested that James is Ambrose's father because of the proximity of childrens' birth dates and possible inhabitance of Scituate.  Has anyone found any reference to Ambrose prior to the mention in Deane of 1695.  Thanks

The American Genealogist 73 (1998): 255 says that his origins are unknown, and that he was an undistinguished resident of Scituate of whom little trace could be found. It references Deane's History of Scituate.
