Here is a webpage of a will of  John C.Whiting. It states that  John B. Cary was his son. The  will was in Virginia. John C. Whiting,Married Martha Shield,She was daughter of John Shield

York County ,Virginia.John B. Cary was his son and administrator of John C. Whiting

Will.I have a copy of John C.Whiting will.John C. Whiting middle name was Cary,

Thats why his son named John B. Cary.I surmise.I have read the will for hours

to try to mke sense of it.I also have a lot of records on John Bayton Cary.And

associated people.
