In my family tree is a Mary “Polly” Carr, who married John Holiday was she related.

In my family tree, there is a Mary Carr  1768-1835 in Albemarle, Virginia,who married John Holiday. They are mentioned in several historical accounts, ( History of Scioto County ) but very little other information. Their daughter was Mary Holiday who married John Dunham. I have done a DNA through Ancestry.com.

What did your DNA test reveal about the Mary Carr connection?

I just sent an email to AncestryDNA. It took some looking to find them. There were no comments when I got the results. But I don’t think they look for that particular match nor did I request it at the time I submitted a sample. I have requested them to check.

If you upload your raw DNA from Ancestry to GedMatch you can run a report to see if your parents were related.  I think it goes back several generations on both sides looking for DNA matches

The profile for Dabney Carr states that he had a daughter Mary who was born in 1768. However, the profile states she was unmarried. You might research Dabney's family to see how they know Mary remained single. It could be that researchers just never identified a marriage for her.

There were several Carr families in that region of Virginia, some of whom are known to be related, but all thought to be related. Without additional evidence, it may be nearly impossible to identify Mary's parents with any certainty. This is a situation where mtDNA or x-DNA might help, but that would depend upon exactly how your tree links back to Polly. Also, finding those matches would be difficult at best, and impossible using Ancestry DNA alone. Uploading your Raw DNA to Gedmatch.com might help in that regard.
