Disconnect "Parents" from Gabriel Maupin

I believe it is time to disconnect Gabriel from these parents, Amos and Marguerite. They seem to originate with family tradition, and I cannot find sources or documentation. They may very well be real people, and deserving of profiles on WikiTree, I'm just not convinced that they are Gabriel's parents.

There are factual problems with them. The biggest one, in my mind, is that Amos and Marguerite are both from Navarre, which is where the family used to think that Gabriel was from. We have learned that Gabriel was from Gargeau or in New French: Jargeau, near Orleans in the northern part of France. That is about 400-500 miles by road from Navarre!

The sources on Amos, while appearing to be numerous, all come down to a broken Ancestry link, another broken URL link, and three email addresses that do not work. In other words, literally no sources at all.  And Marguerite's profile is marked "Unsourced," which is certainly appropriate.

I will wait for a spell to allow for communication and collaboration before taking action.  If anyone has any evidence for his parents, besides "family trees" we need to see it!

He is my ancestor too, and I agree that if there are no sources to prove his parentage, then they should be disconnected.  It should still be noted in his profile that they once were considered but not proven, so they won't be reattached in the future unless proven.

I will rely on other researchers to source this, for the 1600s are beyond my experience.

The Maupins are my husband’s ancestors.  The Revolutionary War patriots, and records that my father-in-law wrote for before his death in 1973 have peaked my interest in the Maupins. I wrote the profile for Amos Maupin (1775-1865), and I just supposed that he was named for his second great grandfather, but I believe you are correct in not being able to find the connection from Gabriel to Amos (1620-1680). I always hate to disconnect from a great line of ancestors; I also realize, that at WikITree, it is important to provide correct genealogy.

Maupins do exhibit regular use of the name Amos, and I suspect that is why it was so easy to "adopt" Amos DeMaupin as Gabriel's father.  And Navarre was known to be a Protestant stronghold, so it all seemed to make sense.

But it is interesting to note that it took four generations for the name to show up!  And Maupins don't normally hesitate to use a grandfatherly name for their children!

Hearing no objections, the disconnection of Gabriel's parents will commence, with a message in the Research Notes explaining why.
