Hi WikiTreers!

Join Sarah and me and other community members this Saturday at 10 AM (ET) for our WikiTree Live feature where we talk about what's been happening around the site this week. You can ask questions, join the conversation, or just watch.

In the second half we'll be chatting with Jillaine Smith about our Puritan Great Migration Project.

You can watch via YouTube or our Facebook page. See you there!

If anyone has questions about PGM they'd like answered, post them here, and I'll address them in the chat (time permitting).
This is excellent. I'll be looking forward to seeing you, Jillaine.
Hi Jillaine,

PGM question. I have Anderson's Directory and use it frequently. This past week, I found two ancestors who are listed in his book as arriving in CT in 1639 (Simon Mills and John Bissell), both of whom are listed as Founders of Windsor on the marker erected by the Windsor Historical Society. For this query, I will stick with Simon Mills because I've worked on him the most this past week (Mills-285). Please keep in mind I'm not done with him or his wife.

In addition to Anderson, I am finding other sources, some secondary, that provide details about Simon Mills arriving on the "Mary and John" in May 1630 at Dorchester, Massachusetts led by Rev. John Wareham. Simon's brother, John, died en route and was buried at sea. Between 1635 and 1639 Rev. Wareham and Rev. Hewitt's (aka Huit) people moved from Dorchester, MA to Windsor, CT.

My question is, could Anderson have listed "Mills, Simon: Unknown; 1639; Windsor" because this was the first documentation of his being in the colonies, whereas Simon could have arrived in 1630, but not recorded? Apparently, the Windsor town recorder was Matthew Grant and there is a fair amount of rave reviews as to his documenting skills in early Windsor.

I won't even bring up Simon's wife "Jone/Sarah" here, but I tried to clarify and provide great detail in Simon's profile.

I am finding a similar issue with John Bissell (arrived with Hewitt in 1638, but listed as 1639 in Anderson.

Thank you for any feedback. I will try to be up and on by 7am on Saturday!
Carol, that's a great question that might go beyond the scope of the live chat. But I may use this as an example of what to do when you have a question about the facts or relationships on a PGM profile. Quick answer though: I'd look more closely at the source of the 1630 immigration claim. When was it published? Pre or post Anderson's work? Anderson and his team were pretty thorough-- at least for those who arrived by 1636. But they did sometimes miss things. Rarely. I encourage you to start a g2g thread associated with Simon's profile so we can dig into this more deeply.
Thanks Jillaine, I will definitely follow up as soon as I complete some university demands. I'm finding some other issues with his profile and would like G2G feedback along with his PM. I did send an email to the Windsor Founders group as well. Very good session. My first!

I will try to join! I am a night owl and live in the western US, so 7am is the middle of the night for me; however, you all are great and worth the early wake up call. Glad you won't be able to see me, though, because I will NOT be ready for my close up, Mr. deMille! Hasta Sabado!
