I found a DAR book from 1958 on the Landrus Family story, my question is can I use this as accurate information?

NO - but it can certainly help you to know where to look for sources.

I have read that many DAR books are now considered to be unreliable.

The DAR tightened their lineage documentation requirements for membership a number of years ago and as a result some DAR patriot lines are now either no longer eligible due to person has been proven not to have served or the lines have to be re-proven for specific reasons listed in patriots file, examples would be: in adequate documentation, or multiple men with the same name living in the same area, would need to document correct individual with new documentation. These old books can be used as a place to look for where documented sources may be found.
