I need to add my fathers mother and it won't let me, keeps saying i don't have permission

You will find the link in the yellow rectangle below the profile's "Sources" section.

You should be able to add her as spouse of your grandfather, to create the profile, then link her to the child after you have been added to trusted list of your father's profile.

That is because it’s private, you can send the profile manager a private message and ask if she will add you to it’s trusted list
