Nice work, Matt

Actually, those 1870 and 1875 census records might be someone else. IF Philip and Margaret Gruss were living in Bonhomme, St. Louis, Missouri in 1900 with children Mary, Annie, Christine and Joseph, then Margaret Fuchs emigrated in 1882, the year before she married, in which case she wasn't here to be in those earlier census records.

Also, if that 1900 census is them, it indicates that Philip Gruss arrived to the U.S. in 1867, and was born April 1845 in Germany and was a railroad watchman. (Source: US Census: Year: 1900; Census Place: Bonhomme St Louis Missouri; Roll: 888; Page:  21A; Enumeration District: 0111; FHL microfilm:  1240888.)

A Phil. Gruss, 22, arrived NYC on the "Sidon" 11 Nov 1867. He is not travelling with any other Grusses. (I.e., he appears to be on his own)  (Source: NY Passenger lists 1820-1957, Year:  1867; Arrival:  New York United States; Microfilm Serial: M237; Microfilm Roll:  288; Line: 28; List Number:  1184.)
