Losing data when "set as child"

+4 votes

I like the changed format in adding new family members, but I have run into an issue.  When I found a match in Keller-1890 as a child of Jacob and Barbara Keller , I selected "set as child" but immediately all of the information on that individual's page disappeared - the mother's maiden name which I did not have, and some siblings.  Although I have no sources for those siblings and the maiden name, they would have been good clues to search with.  Did I do something wrong or is the program designed to do that?

If you're adding a parent to a child, and it finds a match, it will attach your child to the existing parent instead of duplicating it.  So far so good.

But what happens if you're adding a child to an existing parent?  If it finds a match, then either (a) it's wrong, or (b) you've already duplicated the existing parent.

What it might have done is detach the existing child from the parents it had, so as to attach them to your parents.  Then you lose the parents and siblings.

Not fatal - just a case of hunting down the previous parents.

Looks like the Keller-1890 that you've kidnapped might be the son of Landes-147, so you can return him before he's missed.

But I have no idea what happed to his Dad.
