My Grandmother (my Dad's mother on the Skidmore branch) did a lot of research for years. She had started and I had picked it up from where she left off after she passed away. I had already been going back through all that she and I had to verify before adding to Wikitree. Some I have, some I am still trying to find. I have what looks like a book either she was writing or someone was helping her write so that is where I am finding a lot of the Skidmore information.

Awesome!  I would love to see that book that someone started because I am writing a civil war historical fiction novel about William Spurlock (Martha's husband) and his brother.  All I really have is his civil war discharge papers, some census info and timelines of what was going on in VA & KY immediately before he enlisted through the end of his service.  The more info to fill in the blanks, the better.  If you would be willing to share that book, it could prove very helpful.

That is awesome. I will look and see what it has. There are some other documents she got from the Harlan Co Genealogical society that I'll look through too. The "book" she has is basically the the lineage of the Skidmore's so I'm not sure how much help it would be. It does have some info on Henry Skidmore who was a Captain for the F Company, 47th volunteer mounted infantry during the Civil War. A few sons served under him. I'll let you know what I find.
