Hi all,

Is there a database or source for dates/names for locations that change in Colonial New England? The drop-down box isn't always helpful. Sorry. :/

If we are to gather our own resources and share them, I just got data about Maine from the below link. I have reorganized it a bit for clarity:

1622-1650 - Province of Maine - The coastal areas of eastern Maine first became the Province of Maine in a 1622 land patent. The part of western Maine north of the Kennebec River was more sparsely settled, and was known in the 17th century as the Territory of Sagadahock.

1650-1780 - Commonwealth of Mass. Wells, York County, Mass. The province was incorporated into the Massachusetts Bay Colony during the 1650s, beginning with the formation of York County, Massachusetts, which extend from the Piscataqua River to just east of the mouth of the Presumpscot River in Casco Bay. Eventually, its territory grew to encompass nearly all of present-day Maine.

1760 – Creation of Cumberland and Lincoln counties. The large size of the county led to its division.

1780-1820 - District of Maine. A "governmental designation for what is now the U.S. state of Maine"

1820 – Maine admitted to the Union as the 23rd state.

Hi Claire.  Some WikiTreers took a crack at that a while back, and it looks like it has been updated recently.  See if this is what you're looking for:

The spreadsheet is a nice attempt, but a lot of the information is misleading or just incorrect.

Here are a couple of fairly decent references I use for county information.  Both are free to use with no login required.  The first one has exact dates and cites the applicable code(US, State law) making the change if you dig deep enough.
