Could Alexander Leiper and Mary Caldwell be the parents of Andrew Leiper - or am I clutching at straws?

Kathy, it's an interesting hypothesis to pursue. The timing would work  

One way to exclude it is to see if the Scottish man by the same name stuck around Scotland or disappeared from British Isles records around the same time the man by the same name showed up in NSW.

We're there any other Leipers in NSW?

There were other Leiper's in New South Wales at the time (apart from his wife and known descendants), but I don't know if they were relations or not, and so far have found no association between them.
