I have been using the MyHeritage web site but I don't understand Gedcom or how to export a Gedcom file.

My research is over 5,000 people; it's around 15,000 people.

This help page gives instructions for downloading your MyHeritage GEDCOM https://www.myheritage.com/help-center/en/article/can-i-export-a-gedcom-file-of-my-family-tree-from-my-family-site

To upload to WikiTree, you would need to split the file. Most recommend you start with a small group of about 50 people to familiarise yourself with the way the GEDCOMpare process works. More details about GEDCOMpare here: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Current_GEDCOMpare_Process

To split your GEDCOM file you would need to use a desktop program. The standard edition (FREE) of Legacy Family Tree has this capability.

Hi Sandra and Welcome to the Tree!!!

If you are unsure what a GEDCOM file is and how it can help you transfer your research to WIkiTree, please take a look at this page I put together to help the first time GEDCOMpare user.

GEDCOM File Usage Primer

It has links to explain a GEDCOM file and many links to WikiTree Help Pages as well.  Plus there are some hints and tips on transferring your Tree here.

Vivian is correct that you need to split your total tree into more manageable groupings.  As WikiTree does not automatically load the names from your file and create a tree, smaller files make life easier.

Though it can look daunting at first, it is well worth the effort to transfer your research to WikiTree to archive it where it will be available to your family for a very, very long time.
