In the Dutch Settlers Society of Albany, N. Y. Year Book 1930-31, Vol. VI it is noted that the 21 April 1685 Will of Jan De Vries with his name spelled John Frese, mentions Margarieta Coster (as his 2nd wife) and daughters Abeltie Lespinaer and Annatie wife of Omie la Grange. I am unable to attach John/Jan/Johannes as the father of Annetje and was hoping someone of the proper authority might do this. Thank you.

Hi Randal,

I added the new_netherland tag to your question so everyone following this tag will notice your question, there were several men named Jan de Vries in New Netherland, so I'm not sure if perhaps there was a profile already for him somewhere, but connected the profile(s) for you now.

Not really into the family so not sure if it's all correct but I'm sure Ellen or other members can help if it's not or if there's a profile already that perhaps has to be merged. (our granddaughter is running around so a bit busy here ;) )

Not really a source, but took a quick look and found what you mentioned also here at rootsweb ..

This online genealogy gives Annetje de Vries the patronymic Derckse, cites no source so not sure if that's correct either, but if Derckse really was her patronymic her father would have been a man named Derck not Jan (or Johannes)..

Assuming the Dutch Settlers Society Year book properly quoted the will of Jan de Vries (John Frese), there should be little doubt as to who her father was. In it, he names as his daughter, Annetje, wife of Omi de la Grange.

Further assuming that Jan and Margarieta and Annetje and Abeltie was the family who arrived on the Gilded Otter in 1660, Annetje is very much too young to have been the mother of Joost de la Grange and son Johannes was likely born a few years after his posted birth year of 1664. Is there any evidence Joost was a part of the family of Omi and Annetje? What about Johannes' year of birth?
