It is believed that William or his father came from England as an indentured servant to Virginia, USA.  Trying to find where in England his family came from and who his parents were.  There is talk that they came from Middlesex, England.

I'd look in Wood Green Middlesex, England. According to his find A Grave memorial # 91461810 that's where he was born.

All census records I have seen for William Humphrey show that he was born in Virginia.

According to:

"History of the Upper Ohio Valley" Vol. II, 1890.
Presented by Linda Fluharty from hard copies provided
by Mary Staley & Phyllis Slater.
Page 517.

It says he is of English descent, but not that he was born in England.
Find-A-Grave owner is non-responsive on providing any proof of birth in England.

My research also shows additional children.

No luck on parents for my 3rd Great-Grandfather.
I am willing to share any info on his 21 children.
Hi Tony, Thank you your response.  I am from the Wm/Eliza Jones family branch via Robert; their 2nd son.  My info told us that Wm came to Ohio from Virginia as an indentured servant who arrived in Virginia from England. Perhaps his father (unknown to us) was that indentured person??  You mentioned census records from Virginia - do you have that information to share - I don't have any records of William in Virginia?  I did research one William Humphrey in Stafford, Virginia, but the descendent line doesn't work with the family members we have. Again that's for your reply.  I have been trying to make the connection to "across the pond" for my mother who research the name for many, many years.
Hi Judy,

I'm descended from William/Eliza's first son James. From the 1850 census on Ancestry, it shows him born in VA.

1880 census shows William Humphrey born in VA, Father/Mother born in VA.

I don't doubt the English connection, but I believe our Humphreys were here a little longer than some would think. Do you have William / Eliza's marriage record in VA or any information there? It might help us to narrow down where they were before traveling to Belmont County, OH.
Before 1863 Belmont County, Ohio,  was just across the Ohio River from Virginia, but No, all I have is from Find A Grave, memorial No. 91461810 which you can visit. Again, I have no further information on him or his family.
Judy,

I also checked 1880 census records (OH) for James Humphrey and 1880 census records (IA) for Robert Humphrey. Both list father and mother as born in Virginia.

I don't put much faith in the Find A Grave memorial. The owner is non-responsive and has incorrect/incomplete information. His marriage to 3rd wife had 5 children; however the memorial only accounts for 2 of them.

Since William Humphreys is referred to as Senior.I assume his father was not a

William,There are 2 in Middlesex that are likely. One was spelled Humfriys.

The other Humphreys. So the most likely was William Humphreys ,Christened

Nov 2 1798,Father James Bristow Humphreys, mother Mary Humphreys.
