Why don't brackets work in profile comment boxes so we could show people what categories to add?

Sharon, have you tried placing the bracketed script within <nowiki> and </nowiki>. Within a profile or category narrative, the nowiki tags allow bracketed script to be displayed.

You can see brackets displayed on a category page here: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:%C3%8Ele_d%27Orl%C3%A9ans_en_1666. To see how the bracketed script is written to display the brackets, simply open that page's edit tab.

Please let me know if it works within a comment box.

(Edited to replace the term "braces" with "brackets")

Thank you, George!

i know this is an old thread, and not sure if it was resolved, then rebroken...  I have been going over some military and war categories and sending messages to profile managers to update some categories due to rename, restructure, etc. and use of nowicki has no effect.  if the message has braces for templates or brackets for categories they show up on the message as the template display or the brackets category brackets portion does not show up at all in the message, and brackets : category brackets (to reference the category) shows up without the brackets, but displays the link.

the only way i have found to avoid this is to add the brackets/braces by using the &#code values for them.  doing this will have them display on the message as the correct character, as long as you do not go back and edit the message for any corrections, at which point they are saved as the actual brackets/braces and go back to the display of template or disappearance of the category...

i am not sure whya message has to be put though the process of looking for template/category pages to begin with....
