What is the use of tags on free-space pages?

When we tag our G2G questions, then people who follow those tags get notified in their activity feeds, and the tags are visible on the G2G main page (where the questions are listed).  But how is it useful to add tags to free-space pages?

If the page is edited and you're following the tag, the edit should appear in your genealogy feed, which is part of the daily email and also on your Nav Home Page.

The genealogy page for the tag lists a selection of space pages with the tag, eg

https://www.wikitree.com/genealogy/data_doctors

Obviously not a complete list, so not terribly useful.

There's a feed for each tag, but it doesn't seem to include the space pages, eg this shows nothing

https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Special:NetworkFeed&surname=DATA_DOCTORS&showall=1

G2G's search system is heavily tag-based, but only searches G2G pages.

WikiTree doesn't have a tag-based search. I have no idea whether Google takes much notice of tags on space pages.

Thank you!  That is useful.

I'd say if someone looks for a certain keyword and a Free Spage Page is tagged with that keyword, the FSP should come up as search result.

I guess it might if you used an uncommon keyword, but so far I've been trying a few searches for common tags and not had any luck.

If you use a tag for a surname i.e. Haywood, then click on the tag and you will be taken to the Haywood genealogy page (for example: https://www.wikitree.com/genealogy/HAYWOOD)

which will give you all sorts of links to unconnecteds, unsourceds, pending merges, and more.

Thank you, Ros.  I should have explained that I meant non-surname tags.
As RJ has explained, these (non-surname) tags will mean that items tagged will show up in your Genealogy Feed.  For instance, I get an entry if someone does something to the Rangers page, or to certain Name Studies, or to the ONS FAQ page.  As far as I know, Google pays no attention to these tags; they are a WT internal thing.
Right.  So I guess no one has ever tagged a page "dna," which surprises me.  I follow the dna tag, and don't recall ever seeing notice of an edit.

Yes, I get constant notices of changes to the Rangers page.  But I think the reason I get the Rangers updates is that I am on the trusted list for the page.
