Dutch Roots Handy source “finder”

Question

Thought maybe I would share a site I use for finding sources and scans for my Dutch Ancestor’s. Some might know about it and some might not.

genealogiewerkblad.nl can help you find dtb scans for the area where you are researching. Simply go to the site, and near the top you will be able to press “Zoek naar scans”. After this simply type in the place name, A date if you know for what time period you need and hit search! Mind you these are unindexed scans, so you may have to turn quite a few pages, but i find it to be easier than Familysearch.

You can also look for a specific type of source, for instance Marriage, or Birth/baptismal scans.

I too use it sometimes, but mostly I enter the name of the place in the Catalog tab of FS to get a complete list of all sources for that place.

Catalog is handy, andI think they both use many of the same or all the same books. Might just be preference.

However I was not aware of the pop ups since I have not had this experience yet. But I can see that this would be annoying.

Ik heb het uitgeprobeerd maar vooralsnog geen pop-ups gezien. Kan zijn dat mijn virus programma dit blokkeert. Misschien een Linux probleem?

Ik gebruik zelf Windows 10. Heb wel Linux gebruikt maar niet genoeg om er verstand van te hebben.

I added "genealogiewerkbalk" to the lists of Dutch Resources both in Dutch and in English. Of course with acknowledgement of your contribution in both!

Thanks Melissa, but I don't use genealogiewerkbalk that often. Usually prefer going thru FamilySearch's Catalog.

Ik heb net gelezen dat Jan wel pop ups krijg, dit heb ik nog niet gehad, maar het zou mogelijk kunnen zijn.

Anders is Familysearch’s “catalog” ook prima, aangezien dat ze waarschijnlijk allebei het zelfde bronnen gebruiken.

Hier ook geen pop ups tot nu toe, dus bedankt voor het delen Sytze. 

 Van papier naar digitaal is trouwens ook heel handig, heeft naast de daadwerkelijke aktes vaak ook nog transcripties en veel verschillende bronnen (dus niet alleen DTB maar ook verpondingen, volkstellingen, naamsaanneming, etc.), en als bron kun je dan beide toevoegen (de akte + transcriptie). 

Gebruik het zelf vaak voor bijvoorbeeld Overijssel

Thanks for the tip, Sytze.  I didn't know about it.  

I gave it a try to find some sources I've used in the past. First, I discovered it's part of Family Search. For those new to Family Search, you need to create an account in order to use it.  The account is free, and even though this is the official Mormon genealogical site they don't require you to join the Mormon church.  

Secondly, I discovered it doesn't include all the sources I've used.  My most common go-to place for documents is found at https://www.geneaknowhow.net/digi/bronnen.html. It's a compilation of a lot of different documents and their transcriptions.  Since some of these sources are simply scans with no transcription, you may have to work harder to find the person you're looking for.

To be precise, it's not part of FamilySearch but a kind of index to Dutch films, like the much mourned site Zoekakten did in a superior way.

geneaknowhow has been around since times before all the central transcribing started. Good to see it is still online. Footer states:

I think what Bertram means is that it leads you to the records at Family Search, so to be able to see them you will need to create Family search account eeh ?

And yes Bertram Geneanet is also very handy (although some links no longer work), just like van papier naar digitaal it has a great number of very varied and some very early sources that sometimes are very hard to find or not available in the archives (yet).
