Hello! I have been trying to solve a family mystery now for years. I have been trying to find my 2x great grandma, Anna Akin. No one in our family truly knows anything about her, only stories. She was allegedly born abt. 1871-1875 in either Mississippi or Arkansas. She had a child in 1894 (my great grandma, Margaret George Hogan) in Parkdale, Ashley, AR with Gaston Percy George Jr. My grandma Margaret was an illegitimate child, and has never lived with her parents on any census. I have dna ties to individuals with: Samuel T. Akin (1840) Mississippi, his brother James G Akin (1843), and their dad Curtis Akin (1810) North Carolina. If anyone happens to know anything at all, I would greatly appreciate any help I can get. Thank you in advance!

Welcome to WikiTree and G2G, Kelly.

To help others to help you. Is there any other information you can provide on Margaret?

Husband name?

Date of death?

Did she spend all her live in Ashley?

etc...
I think Anna is already here, with an incorrect surname possibly:  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Kins-12

Mother of  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/George-7019

Yeah, that was entered by one of our newest family members and is not correct. Sadly, she was given incorrect information. Thank you though for showing me. smiley

Thanks for the welcome!  I have everything on Margaret. As far as Anna, her mom, (as far as we know) was never married, had 2 daughters with different dads (one of them being Gaston Percy George Jr. who I have matching DNA with). But that is all we know. I have tried contacting the Ashley County Historical Society but they do not keep records there. I live in Wisconsin so I don't have the ability to go down there to search.

Margaret's info:

(aka) 'Dettie' 'Bellie' 'Deddie' 'Betta' 'Detta' George Hogan

  • Birth 28 FEBRUARY 1894 Parkdale, Arkansas
  • Death 26 JULY 1967 Start, Richland, Louisiana, USA
Her mother's info (Anna Akin)
  • b. abt. 1871-1875
  • d. (we think) 1902

What is the information you have on Margaret's half-sister?
Margaret's half sister's info:

Frances "Carrie" Sammons Gardner

B. 1902 d. 2003

Lived in Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin (that I've found) In the 1920 census, she was listed as Francis E. Sammons, living with her Aunt Susie Sammons.
I apologize, Frances' death year is 1993, not 2003.

I found my 2x great grandma today after three years, and after just posting this. Her name was Mary (Mery) Akin (Aiken) on the 1900 census. She was the housekeeper for Francis (Frank) Marion Sammons. My theory is this. My 2x great Aunt's name was Frances Carrie Sammons, and one of F.M. Sammons' kids was also named Frances Carrie Sammons (b. 1888 to F.M. Sammons and his wife Elizabeth Matheny Sammons)

F.M. Sammons was a widower in 1900, and I think he is my Aunt Frances' dad. With my grandma Margaret (b. 1894), I am assuming that Anna (Mary) was working for the George family, Percy Jr. and Anna hooked up and illegitimately had Margaret. He never claimed her as his daughter but she eventually had his last name. He did make sure she was well taken care of, hence her living with William Butler. He was a prominent member of Ashley County society, along with the George family. We were always told that Anna was a servant, so that makes sense. There is more to the picture that ties it altogether, it all makes sense now. heart

I'm so happy for you, Kelly! smiley

Just in case you don´t have the 1910 Census for your aunt Frances (Carry).

Another thing that catched my attention, Gaston Percy George was living in 1900 with a family named "Atkins"-

Yes! Thank you! I have both of those. Percy Jr. was living with the Atkins family (no relation to Akins) because the George family and the Atkins families
were quite predominant in Ashley County and stuck together; that is why (I am assuming) Percy's daughter (Margaret George - Dettie Aiken) was living with

another family when she was little. (William Butler) All three families were a part of the Free Masons, and stuck together.

Samuel T Akin (Sam Aiken, Cutris Aiken's son) had a daughter named Mary born ab. 1877:
