It is not a mistake on Sloanes listed as his mother.In england mothers maiden

name listed on birth.What is unusual, she names him Ernest Dixon born Oct. 1923.

She married a Walter Hadley 3rd quarter1923.Why did she record him as Dixon.

You could contact vital records Sunderland Durham,maybe they have further details.

You also mentioned Sloanes< spot on as I have been looking down the Sloanes history.James Sloanes was father of majority of children with Jane.Then 2 he fathered elsewhere!  I am stuck at Dixon bit Who is Granda Ernies Dad?
