My grandfather was Hilton Ernest Lennon. I am trying to identify his mother and father without much luck. I have in my possession a prayer book called 'Key to Heaven' that my grandfather had. It has written on the front inside page, 'To Will, in memory of the mission, love mother, 1913'. The next page has an inscription written by my Grandmother (I think) that states the book was carried by Alfred Lennon through WW1 and that he was wounded in Pozieres. The next inscription is written to my Grandafther (I think), and it says something along the lines of 'Dear Fat? wishing you luck. The -----' with the address, Glebe. (My grandfather lived in Glebe and enlisted at Forrest Lodge, Glebe for WW2) There is another written note, inserted in the pages. I cant remember exactly the phrases, but it says something along the lines 'carry this with you, it wont be much trouble....' (I am at work writing this and don't have it in front of me). Using this info, and other research, I believe that Alfred and Claude and the other siblings are either my Grandfather's Uncles and Aunts, or even siblings. The backstory is, my grandfather (pop) ran away at 13-15 from Armidale to Sydney. His mother was known as Eileen, however, we are unsure if that was her name. He was born in 1918 or 1919 (cant remember exactly). She lived in Newcastle later on, and remarried (a Roy? perhaps. Apparently involved in Horses) I vaguely recall being told that his mother was his grandmother? So maybe an illegitimate birth? I'm hoping you can help with some leads.
