Do you know if they were born / lived / died in Belfast? Is there any chance they emigrated? Do you have an estimate for their birth dates? Thanks!

Great! Do you have any of their birthdates within a decade or so? That would help immensely.
I have access to limited death (1864-1870) and marriage (1619-1898) records in Ireland. No luck on Hugh Gordon. There were a few records for various people named David Gordon, but would need more information to figure out if it's him. Spouse name? Parents' names? Estimated date of birth or death? The matches are for marriages of people named David Gordon from 1858-1867 in Belfast.
David was married to Essie his parents were Edward Gordon and Mary O'hara Hugh was my great grandfather I will have a look for dates later when I get home from work

Alas, I don't think any of the records I found are for him. Wrong father's name, wrong wife's name. All in Belfast.

Here's the info:

  • David Gordon son of David married Isabella 21 September 1866
  • David Gordon son of John married Jane Smyth on 4 August 1858
  • David Gordon son of Thomas married Margaret Hicklin on 13 August 1867
  • David Gordon son of James married Jane Buckles on 17 February 1865
  • David Gordon son of John married Lucinda Nesbitt on 3 December 1867

And source, which I accessed through a special library edition of Ancestry.com through my public library:

Ireland, Select Marriages, 1619-1898

Hi thank you I have most of this information now. Are you related to the Gordon family?

Time has passed since this was originally posted, so pardon me if this has already been sorted. So Edward married in 1858 at Christchurch Church of Ireland, Derriaghy. Hugh married in March 1891 with his age given as 27. This would put Hugh's birth just before civil registration. A check of the Derriaghy baptismal register is best course of action. David married in 1903. Looks like there is a big discrepancy in his age in the 1901/11 census as it looks like he was born December 26, 1872. Thomas is born in 1876.

Derriaghy puts all their births into the Lisburn registrars district.
