Trouble finding a marriage certificate in New Zealand 1871

I have a date and place of marriage but searching New Zealand records comes up with no results

Date: 16/03/1871 Kaiapoi Canterbury New Zealand

Andrew Smyth or Andres Schmidt

Sarah Jane Gillespie

I have tried a +-5 year search and name variants with no luck

Where did you get your original information, Paula? I’ve searched NZBDM too, but can’t find that marriage either. Do you have a death certificate for the earliest death of the couple which may verify if the marriage is a possibility?
